I originally chose interior design as my career. However, after the psychology talents hold inside of me gradually shown up by some soul searching, one friend suggested me a partial professional change, “the combination of design and psychology”, in which if engaged I would probably make a better contribution. I did some research about how color effects emotion and behavior subsequently, and this article will show you the results I reached.
What will come to our mind if red jumps into view? Yes it’s rose and naturally red takes the name of color of romance. It can improve your appetite, and that means it is the right color in dinner room but in regard to bedroom, it has two sides. Red gets people and animal excited, taking spanish fighting bull as an example, so we’d better turn off the nights before fall asleep.
Blue is a typically sad color as we often hear someone saying “I’m just a little blue today”. In fact, blue does bring us sad feeling when it comes to our mind and that’s why I always recommend avoiding this color when paining a child or teenagers room. In an adult bedroom the combination of blue and other colors may create calming and serenity, if mixed properly.
One point need to mention is blue has been confirmed as an appetite suppressant. So, unless you are in losing weight, don’t choose blue as the color of dining room walls.
Yellow represents happiness. If you are going through depression and want to receive comfort from room color, take yellow into account. Yellow is also a good choice for kitchens as research shows people will lead a happier life if they start the day in a pleasant environment. Besides, yellow could neutralize the negative effects that blue brings.
It has been confirmed that when pink arise in someone’s mind, the sense of aggression fades away. It also brings soothing feelings to metal patients in clinical practice, as it is still a secret to science. And because of this we often find pink in girl’s bedrooms, clothing and other articles of daily use. Stereotypically pink shouldn’t appear in boy’s rooms but base on what mentioned, change the idea!
Green is a natural color. It has the function of eyes protection as it give a feeling of nature, serenity and relax. But Kelly Green is the exception.
Black is used frequently too much especially in men’s clothing and other articles. Yes black feels solemn, sleek, but also serious, weighted, and even grave. It is always considered as an all-matched or unfaulted color. But, darkness is not suitable for the color of room walls in view of its bad effects on person’s spirit. For this reason I suggest no more than one wall in any room black, if you don’t want your thoughts freeze up too many times. Strictly speaking the side effects black brings are something like blue does, but a neutral color is not like that.
Orange can bring a warmth feeling like yellow. It is more lively and vivid than yellow in some way. I recommend each room should have some perfect shock like it.
From serene lavenders to warm red infused purples, we have many different kinds of purples for choice. The lighter purples bring us peace and softness while the brighter and warmer purples bring healing.
White is the most common color we used in wall painting. It makes us feel clean, neutral, calm, and restful, in spite of its staining easily and dullness.
Bright colors often bring us a feeling of happiness and vivacity, while neutrals bring us a sense of peace and softness. Style of room design also plays into the overall effectiveness undoubtedly. So with various colors, we can use them, mix them, and combine them at random in our preference to discover its potential and find the perfect combination our mood favor most.
